Field Hockey Falls to #2 West Chester, 6-2, Wednesday Afternoon

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University field hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to #2 West Chester University, Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 7-6 on the year and 1-4 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play while the Golden Rams improve to 10-2 for the year and 5-1 in PSAC action.

The Huskies got out to the early lead as senior Kirsten Robinson found the back of the cage for the third time this season. After a foul in front of the cage, the Huskies were awarded a penalty stroke and Robinson buried the chance at the 18:41 mark.

Just over two minutes later, the Golden Rams tied the game at 1-1 as Dara Spavlik scored thanks to a pair of assists from Taylor Orsi and Valerie Van Kuijck. Freshman Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) gave the lead back to the Huskies with 41 seconds to play in the half with her second goal of the season off an assist from Madeline Newman (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman).

Following the break, the Golden Rams tied the game just 38 seconds into action and took the 3-2 lead 6:18 into the second half. The Golden Rams added one more goal in the third quarter and two in the fourth to seal their 6-2 win.

Junior goalie Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) made a career-high 14 saves in cage for the Huskies while her counterpart Claire Nielsen made one save for the Golden Rams.

WCU out-shot the Huskies 36-6 for the game and held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Robinson led the Huskies with a pair of shots.
