Field Hockey's Senior Day Spoiled by #1 Shippensburg; Huskies Fall 6-0 to Raiders

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University field hockey team celebrated its 13 seniors - from this season and last - prior to its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest against top-ranked Shippensburg University. The Raiders remained perfect on the season as they came away with a 6-0 win over the Huskies. With the loss, Bloomsburg falls to 7-7 for the year and 1-5 in PSAC action while the Raiders improved to 12-0 and 6-0 in conference play.

Shippensburg got out to a quick 1-0 lead just 1:10 into action in the first quarter. The Raiders out-shot the Huskies 11-1 in the first quarter though junior Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) made seven stops for the Huskies. Senior Foto Tsioles (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) got the only shot of the quarter off for the Huskies and while it was on target, the Raiders goalie, Lindsay Tripodo, was there to make the save.

The Raiders pushed their lead to 2-0 with less than nine to play in the second quarter as Jazmin Petrantonio scored after she got a pass from Anna Gruber after a defensive save by junior Callie Edwards (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) on her shot prior.

Sophomore Alicia Carr (Shickshinny, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) had the best chance to cut the lead in half with 26 seconds to play in the quarter but Tripodo made her second save of the game to keep the Huskies off of the board.

The Raiders added two more goals in the third and fourth to seal the 6-0 win and out-shot the Huskies 18-0 in the final 30 minutes.

Shippensburg held a 34-3 advantage in shots for the game and a 12-4 lead in penalty corners.

Shaffer finished the day with 11 saves in cage for BU while senior Dana Sheply (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) made six stops in the final 21:39 of action, Tripodo needed just two saves for the win for Shippensburg.

The Huskies look to bounce back on Tuesday as they host #3 Millersville in a PSAC contest at Steph Pettit Stadium in Bloomsburg, Pa. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
