BLOOMSBURG, PA- The Bloomsburg University volleyball team swept the Raiders for their first-ever win against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East rival, Shippensburg University, Friday night. The Huskies fought hard for the win on all three sets 26-24, 25-17, 27-25 to make history.
With the win, the Huskies advance to 9-9 for the year and 4-2 in the PSAC while the Raiders dropped to 8-12 for the season and 2-4 in conference play.
Senior
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Huskies for the night with 13 kills, 1 ace, 5 blocks and 7 digs. Senior
Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) followed with 9 kills and 9 digs, while her teammate, Junior
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) added 5 kills. Huskies senior setter
Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) led the team in aces with 5 total and sophomore
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) added 3 aces while seniors
Mia Nicholes (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) racked up 11 blocks for the Huskies. Graduate Student
Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had an impressive 20 digs along with 4 assists.
For the match the Huskies hit .212 and led in aces 10-1 and blocks 11-1 while their PSAC counterpart Shippensburg Raiders, hit .112 and led in kills 40-34, assists 37-32 and digs 52-51.
The Huskies get right back to action on Saturday as they host the top-seeded Shepherd University for an 11:00 AM Homecoming game.
