Field Hockey Falls to Slippery Rock 3-2 on the Road Saturday Afternoon

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University field hockey team dropped a tightly contested 3-2 decision to Slippery Rock University, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 7-9 for the year and 1-7 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play while the Rock improves to 6-8 for the year and 3-5 in conference play.

The Huskies struck first as junior Meghan Longenhagen (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) tipped in a long shot by senior Kristen Robinson (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead 13:52 into action. Slippery Rock's Jordyn Isner attempted to get the equalizer with 30 seconds to play in the opening quarter but her shot went wide and the Huskies carried a 1-0 lead into the second.

Sophomore Alicia Carr (Shickshinny, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead just 33 seconds into the second quarter with her team-leading eighth strike of the season but with just 1:10 to play before half time, Slippery Rock cut the lead to one, 2-1, on Katelyn Sparks' fourth of the year.

Slippery Rock tied the game 1:26 into the third quarter but Bloomsburg couldn't break the tie with its shots and two penalty corners in the corner.

The Huskies took three shots in the fourth quarter but it was Slippery Rock's Lauren Marks' third goal of the yar that proved to be the difference maker. Marks scored with 2:28 to play to give the Rock the 3-2 win.

Shots were tied 9-9 for the match while Bloomsburg held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners. Junior Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) made three saves for BU.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday when they host Mansfield University for a 4:00 pm PSAC contest.
