Women's Soccer Honors Seniors with 5-1 Win Over Lock Haven

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team's offense exploded for five goals Saturday night as the Huskies honored its seven graduating seniors with a 5-1 win over Lock Haven University. With the win, the Huskies improved to 11-3-1 on the year and 10-2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action, while the Bald Eagles dropped to 5-8-1 for the year and 3-8-1 in conference play.

Before the game, the Huskies honored Kimmy Bucher (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), Emily Clauss (Scranton, Pa./Abington Heights), Keira Flanagan (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South), Helen Flynn (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding), Kate Schlotter (Fountainville, Pa./Central Bucks East), and Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel). These seven have led the Huskies to two PSAC regular-season champions, PSAC tournament champions, and two-time NCAA Atlantic Region champions. The Huskies have finished ranked the top-six in the country twice during their tenure.

Flynn got the scoring going early for the Huskies as she trapped a loose ball in traffic and poked her shot over the goalie's reach to give BU a 1-0 lead at the 11:36 mark. The Huskies extended their lead in the 20th minute as sophomore Lauren Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) scored her third goal in as many games. Her goal also proved to be her third-straight game-winner as well. Senior Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) sent a pass into traffic for Bull from the far sideline, and Bull trapped the ball and shot through the traffic in front of her for the 2-0 lead.

Just about two minutes later, the Huskies were awarded a corner kick. An initial shot was blocked, and the Bald Eagles were called for a foul, presumably a handball in the box, and the Huskies were awarded a chance from the penalty spot. Holmes drilled her penalty kick under the diving Bald Eagles goalie and gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead.

Bloomsburg carried the 3-0 lead into halftime after out-shooting the Bald Eagles 12-1 in the first 45 minutes.

Flynn needed just 10 minutes into the second half to extend the Huskies lead to 4-0 with her fourth of the year. Harris worked a cross into the box from the near sideline, and Flynn one-timed it past the LHU goalie at the 55:32 mark.

The Bald Eagles got on the board in the 77th minute, snapped Bloomsburg's shutout streak of 608:23 minutes. Evelyn Ciaccia won a ball between two BU defenders and was able to scoot it past the BU backline for her third goal of the year.

Senior Keira Flanagan (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) put the finishing touches on the Huskies' 5-1 win with her first goal as a Husky. Clauss sent the ball into the box from the far sideline, and Flanagan blasted her shot into the bottom right corner of the net in the 84th minute to cap off the scoring.

The Huskies led the Bald Eagles 19-2 in shots and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Kylie Auman made four saves, two in each half, for the Bald Eagles.

On Wednesday, Bloomsburg gets back to action when the Huskies travel to Kutztown University for a pivotal PSAC East matchup at 5:00 pm. Currently, the Golden Bears are 11-1 in conference play and are the No. 1 seed in the East. The Huskies are 10-2-1 and tied with West Chester University for the No. 2 seed.
