Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Contest to University of D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team fell to the University of D.C. in its final non-conference game of the season, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 9-7 for the year while the Firebirds improved to 8-4-2 for the season.

The Firebirds got out to a quick start with a goal just 2:01 into action. Redshirt junior Joe Morris (Oxford, England/The Henley College) tried for the equalizer just 31 seconds later, but his shot was blocked by a UDC defender and the Firebirds maintained their 1-0 lead. The Huskies put two more shots on net in the half but couldn't get past the UDC goalie, Javier Abadia Torres and the Firebirds held on to the 1-0 advantage at the break.

The Huskies got a pair of corner kicks in the first six minutes of the second half but couldn't capitalize on their set pieces. UDC pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute as Ignacio Pericet subbed in at 62:39 and scored just 31 seconds later. Pericet added his second of the game just about 10 minutes later to give UDC the 3-0 advantage.

The Firebirds got the final two shots of the game off though the BU defense blocked the final attempts and UDC came away with the 3-0 win.

UDC held an 8-3 advantage in shots for the game while each team took three corner kicks.

Graduate student Olly Whitham (Clitheroe, Lancashire, England/Settle College), Morris, and senior Salvatore Ficarotta (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) each had a shot for the Huskies. Junior Nolan Michaels (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Vincent - St. Mary) started in goal for the Huskies and made one save while freshman Nigel McQueary (Newark, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) finished the final 18:01 in net.

The Huskies get back to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action next Wednesday when they host West Chester University for a 4:30 pm contest at Steph Pettit Stadium.
