WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team defeated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East rival, West Chester University, 1-0 on Wednesday. With the win, the Huskies improved to 6-3-1 for the season and 5-2-1 in conference play while the Golden Rams dropped to 5-2-1 for the season and 5-2-1 in PSAC action.

The Huskies came out fast in the first half as they took three shots in the first six minutes, including
Gina Sexton's (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) shot on goal at the 1:50 mark. Senior
Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) was able to get a shot off after a BU corner at the 15:39 mark and junior
Abby Groff (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) put a shot on net just four seconds later but was turned away by Hayley McGee.

Bloomsburg continued to test the West Chester back line but couldn't break the scoreless tie until the 40:10 mark. The Huskies were awarded an indirect kick and senior
Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) put the ball in front of the net for the Huskies. Bloomsburg got a foot on the loose ball in front of the net but benefited from a redirected shot by WCU for the goal.

After an offside was called to stop the Huskies from attacking, Bloomsburg carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Golden Rams tried for their equalizer throughout the second half but sophomore
Alexa Ryan (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was there and kept WCU off of the board with three saves in the final 45 minutes of action to preserve her shutout.

For the game, the Huskies out-shot the Golden Rams 12-4, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goals. West Chester led 6-1 in corners.

Ryan finished the day with four saves while McGee made five stops for WCU.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they host Millersville University for a 7:00 pm contest at Steph Pettit Stadium during Parents and Family Weekend.
