Women's Basketball Falls to Holy Family Wednesday Night

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – It was a tale of two halves for the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team as Holy Family University scored 36 second-half points to edge out the Huskies, 53-45, Wednesday evening. The Huskies dropped to 1-2 on the year while Holy Family improves to 2-1 for the season.
 
The Huskies opened the game with an 18-8 first quarter before both defenses took over in the second. Holy Family narrowly out-scored the Huskies 9-7 in the second but the Huskies took a 25-17 lead into halftime.
 
The Tigers used a 16-9 third quarter to cut the Bloomsburg lead to 34-33 with 10 minutes to play in regulation. The Tigers ended the quarter on a 7-0 run in the last 2:26 of action after senior Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) made the last basket for the Huskies at the 3:26 mark thanks to an assist from senior Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York).
 
The Huskies and Tigers traded buckets in the first minute of the fourth as Moe Moore hit a jumper for Holy Family but freshman Samantha Brusha (Abington, PA/Abington) answered for the Huskies to keep the 1-point BU lead. Holy Family eventually took the lead for good at the 6:39 mark with a layup from Taylor Cotter and pushed its lead to as many as 11, 53-42, with 11 seconds left on the clock. Allison Hileman (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) hit the last basket for Bloomsburg, a three-pointer with six seconds to play to bring the score to its final, 53-45 in favor of Holy Family.
 
Corridoni led the Huskies with 17 points and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds while Emma Gouchnauer chipped in 10 points. Saxton finished the day with seven points, five assists and eight boards for the Huskies.

As a team, the Huskies shot 35.2% (19-for-54) from the floor and were 3-for-17 from the three-point line. The Huskies were 4-for-6 from the free throw line.

Holy Family shot 35.3% from the floor (18-for-51) and were just 2-for-12 from beyond the arc. The Tigers went to the free throw line 21 times and shot 71.4% (15-for-21) from the charity stripe. Holy Family was led by Moe Moore with 18 points and Lindsay Tretter with 10.
 
The Huskies continue the season-opening road trip as they head to Johnstown, Pa.  to take on Pitt-Johnstown in non-conference action on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
