EDINBORO, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team suffered a tough 5-2 loss to Edinboro to open the 2021 season. The Huskies open the year and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action, 0-1, while the Fighting Scots improved to 2-3 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.

The Huskies claimed the doubles point and picked up an additional point in the singles matches. Seniors Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrew's (Fla.)) and Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) got the season off on the right foot as they defeated Takahiro Inoue and Kai Chin Chen of Edinboro 6-1 in the No. 1 Doubles match. Sophomore Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) and senior Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Colegio Calasancio Hispalense) defeated Kaio Sacchi and Ruben Acuna in the No. 3 Doubles match, 7-6, to earn the doubles point for BU. 

In singles action, sophomore Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones) earned the solo point for Bloomsburg with a hard-fought win over Chin Chen at No. 6 singles. Martinez won the first set, 6-0 before dropping the second set, 0-6 as Chin Chen tied up the match. Martinez fought back to take the deciding set, 6-2. 

The Huskies have little time to rest as they are back on the court on Sunday, March 21 to face Mercyhurst University in PSAC West action at 6:00 pm.
