Lacrosse Earns Dominant 16-3 Win Over Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team picked up its second-straight win as the Huskies dominated on both ends of the field for a 16-3 win over visiting Kutztown, Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 2-1 on the year and 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action as the Golden Bears fell to 0-3 for the season and 0-2 in conference action.

Bloomsburg was led by senior Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) who had three goals, nine draw controls, and a ground ball while freshman Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) scored three times and one a draw control. Graduate student Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) picked up her second win of the season in cage for Bloomsburg as she made seven saves after facing just 10 shots on net.

For the second-straight game, the Bloomsburg offense was very balanced as the Huskies had nine different goal scorers and 10 Huskies recorded at least one point. Senior Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), junior Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and sophomore Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) all had a pair of goals for BU while senior Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area), sophomore Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), and freshman Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) all had a goal and an assist. Junior Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) gave the Huskies a 14-3 lead late in the second half with her third of the season to round out the goal-scorers for BU.

The Huskies defense did their job well on Saturday as they held the Golden Bears to just 14 shots for the game and caused 14 of the KU's 18 turnovers. The Golden Bears were awarded just four free-position shots but only were able to convert one, which came in the first half.

Bergman took control of the game right away for Bloomsburg as she won the opening draw and immediately went to cage and scored just 15 seconds into action to give the 1-0 lead. The goal kicked off a 5-0 run for the Huskies, which featured Griffin's first collegiate goal and Clauss's first goal of the season. After Stoll scored just over four minutes into action. Kilgallon put a bow in the run with her second of the year at the 22:16 mark.

Kutztown got a goal back with 11:58 to play in the opening half, but Bloomsburg used another five-goal run to push its lead to 10-1 with just 2:06 to play before halftime. Bergman and Stoll accounted for two goals each during the run while Roberts netted her fourth of the year at the 8:01 mark. The Golden Bears were awarded a free position shot with 1:04 to play in the half and Morgan Hurd converted to cut the Husky lead down to 10-2. Dempsey got on the board for Bloomsburg with just four seconds to go before halftime with her team-leading ninth goal of the year to give BU an 11-2 lead at halftime.

Bergman did not allow the 10-mintue break cool her off as she opened the second half just as she did the first, winning the draw control easily. This time, the Huskies set up their offense and found an open shot for Roberts thanks to a great pass from Bardman and pushed their lead to 12-2. Kilgallon found the back of the net for the second time in the game at the 23:45 mark as she converted a free-position shot for BU.

Kutztown scored its final goal of the game to cut into the BU lead, 13-3, as Morgan Hurd took a pass from Erin Vaughn Ware over the net and found a rare hole past DiPasquale. Kalish's third of the season gave Bloomsburg a 14-4 lead with 9:56 to play and Bardman and Dempsey rounded out the scoring for BU with a pair of goals in the final seven minutes of action.

The Huskies won 13 of the 21 draw controls and were a perfect 22-for-22 on clears.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday, March 23 as the Huskies welcome Shippensburg University to Steph Pettit Stadium for a 2:00 pm PSAC East Contest. The Raiders come into Tuesday's game 0-4 on the year and are playing in their first road contest of the season.
