Men's Tennis Knocks Off Visiting Kutztown, 7-0, Saturday Afternoon

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team evened its record at 2-2 on the season as it took care of visiting Kutztown University, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Golden Bears dropped to 1-4 overall on the year.

The Huskies swept all three doubles matches to jump in front, 1-0, heading to singles competition. Seniors Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrew's (Fla.)) and Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) teamed up for a 6-1 victory at #1 while freshman Ben Clary (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) and junior Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) posted a 6-0 blanking over Kutztown's duo of Neal Devkaran and Kurt Abell at #2. Sophomores Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) and Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones) capped off the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory at #3 over Justin Gincauskas and Ethan Moyer.

Bloomsburg continued its winning ways in singles action as the Huskies swept all six matches in straight sets. Luetzig opened the scoring with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #4 with Martinez following with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #5 to put the Huskies within a point from clinching the match. Wiesemann polished off the Golden Bears after earning a 6-2, 6-0 win at #3 over Devkaran to clinch the victory.

Senior Raul Rodriguez (Naples, Fla./Marco Island Academy), Walle, and Clary completed the sweep with straight-set victories at #6, #2, and #1, respectively.

Clary was playing at #1 singles for the first time in his collegiate career while Rodriguez earned his first singles victory as a member of the Huskies. Walle and Wiesemann picked up their first singles wins of the season.

The Huskies return home on Wednesday, April 14, when they entertain the Golden Rams of West Chester University at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
