Men's Tennis Shuts Out West Chester Wednesday Afternoon

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team posted its second consecutive shutout victory on Wednesday afternoon as it blanked visiting West Chester University, 7-0, at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Huskies, winners of three straight, improved to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings while the Golden Rams dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.

The Huskies won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. Sophomore Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) and senior Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Colegio Calasancio Hispalense) started the scoring with a 6-2 victory at #2 doubles while senior Raul Rodriguez (Naples, Fla./Marco Island Academy) and sophomore Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones) teamed up for a 6-1 win at #3 doubles to clinch the point. Senior Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrew's (Fla.)) and junior Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) won by a 6-3 final at #1 to finish off the sweep.

Bloomsburg continued its winning ways in singles action as the Huskies won all six contests in straight sets. Redmond opened the scoring with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #4 to extend the Huskies' advantage to 2-0. Rodriguez followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 and Carranza secured the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #6. Walle, Martinez, and Wiesemann finished off the sweep with straight-set victories.

"We had the chance to see our depth step up today," said Bloomsburg University head coach, Rebecca Helt. "Our depth proved to be too much as we were able to win with convincing scores. It was a great overall effort by our men today."

Bloomsburg is scheduled to hit the courts against on Friday, April 16, when it travels to Shepherd University to square off against the Rams. Action gets underway at 2:00 p.m.
