Men's Tennis Comes From Behind to Defeat Jefferson, 5-2

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Jefferson University, 5-2, Monday afternoon in non-conference action. The Huskies won their fifth-straight match and improved to 5-2 on the year while the Rams dropped to 4-4 for the year.
 
Despite dropping the doubles point, sophomore Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) and senior Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Colegio Calasancio Hispalense) won at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.
 
The Rams claimed the first singles match to take a 2-0 lead, but the Huskies won the final five matches to claim the victory, 5-2.
 
Sophomore Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones) won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4 for the first singles victory before Redmond tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. Senior Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrew's (Fla.)) gave Bloomsburg its first lead of the day with a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles.
 
Junior Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) dropped the first set 6-3 at No. 3 singles, but came back to win 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the match point for Bloomsburg. Senior Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) closed out the match with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles to hand Bloomsburg its 5-2 win.
 
"The guy's match was incredible," complimented head coach Rebecca Helt. "We went down 0-2, then fought hard to take the remaining five singles matches. The energy from the team was outstanding. Good win for the team!"
 
The win closes out the regular season for the Huskies as they now prepare for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament, beginning on April 27. Bloomsburg has claimed the No. 3 seed in the tournament. A full preview of the tournament will be available at a later date.
