Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team closed out the regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-0 victory at Lock Haven University. The Huskies improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division while the Bald Eagles dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead by virtue of sweeping all three doubles matches. The Capoferri sisters - senior Taylor and sophomore Sarah - posted a 6-1 victory at #1 followed by a 6-0 victory at #2 by the duo of senior
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and freshman
Anna Chikhalenko (Birmingham, Mich./Wylie F. Groves).
Seniors
Devon DiCampli (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and
Haille Hoeflein (Easton, Pa./Easton) completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at #3.
The winning carried over into singles action as Bloomsburg won all six matches to post the shutout victory.
Both DiCampli and Hoeflein won their matches at #5 and #6, respectively, without losing a game as each posted identical 6-0, 6-0 victories. Sarquis added a 6-2, 6-0 win at #2 while
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at #1.
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Chikhalenko also earned straight-set victories at #3 and #4, respectively.
The Huskies, who have clinched the third seed in the PSAC tournament, will head to Millersville University on Saturday, April 24, for the PSAC Quarterfinals against the Marauders who enter the postseason as the #2 seed in the east. The two teams met back on March 27 in Millersville with the Marauders coming away with a 6-1 victory over the Huskies.
Start time of the quarterfinal match is to be determined.
