Lacrosse Falls to #9 East Stroudsburg in PSAC Quarterfinal Contest

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg lacrosse team saw its season come to a close on Saturday as the Huskies fell to #9 East Stroudsburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament quarterfinals, 18-9. Bloomsburg ends the season with a record of 8-6 while the Warriors improved to 10-2 on the year.
 
Offensively, the Huskies were led by senior Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and sophomore Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) with two goals each while senior Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and sophomore Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each finished with a goal and an assist for BU. Junior Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) won three draw controls and Bergman finished the day with two.
 
On the defensive end, senior Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) scooped up a team-best four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers while seniors Erin Gingrich (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Lana Paulo (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) each had two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
 
Graduate student Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) made a season-high 14 saves in net for the Huskies though she took the loss to end the season 8-6.
 
The Warriors got on the board first with a pair of goals in the first five minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Bergman cut the lead to 2-1 at the 23:09 mark thanks to an assist from Williams. After a pair of goals by ESU pushed the Warriors' lead to 4-1, Roberts and Bergman scored back-to-back goals within a minute of each other to cut the lead back down to one, 4-3, with 13:15 to play in the first half.
 
ESU used a four-goal run over the next three minutes to open an 8-3 lead with 10:11 to play before the break. Dempsey halted the run with her first of the game and Williams followed with her second to cut the lead down to 8-5 with 2:45 to play. The Warriors ended the first half with a a goal from Shannon Dent with just 19 seconds on the clock to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
 
The Warriors picked up where they left off as they kicked off the second half with a pair of goals to push their lead to 11-5 with 24:55 to play.
 
Sophomore Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) got on the board with 21:46 to play in the game with her sixth of the game to cut the lead back down to five, 11-6, but that would be as close as the Huskies could get.
 
ESU rattled off three-straight to take a 14-6 lead before Roberts broke up the run with her second of the game and 22nd of the season. The Warriors closed out the game with four-straight to seal the 18-7 win.
 
The Warriors move on to face off against top-seeded #4 West Chester University in the PSAC Tournament semifinals.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Huskies finished the year 8-6 overall and 7-5 in PSAC East Play
  • On the year, Bloomsburg scored 177 goals and had 78 assists for 255 points in 14 games
  • Senior Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) led the team with a career-best 42 goals on the year and 47 points. She hit both the 100-point and 100-goal plateau during the season while finishing her career with 102 goals, 21 assists, and 123 points. = She also hit the 100-draw control milestone and has 145 career draw controls.
  • Senior Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished her time at BU with 82 goals, 16 assists for 98 total points. She hit the 100-draw controls milestone during her junior season and has collected 152 DCs in her four years. She has 87 career ground balls as well.
  • Senior Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) finished the season with a career-best 46 caused turnovers and 46 ground balls. She hit the 100-CT and 100-GB milestone during the season and finished her career with 142 caused turnovers and 144 ground balls.
  • Graduate student Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) finished her stellar career at BU with 40 career wins, 635 saves, 237 ground balls, and 68 caused turnovers. DiPasquale had two 10-win seasons in 2018 and 2019.
