Women’s Soccer Blanks Mansfield, 4-0, in PSAC Eastern Division Action

BLOOMSBURG - Four different players scored goals, while Bloomsburg University women's soccer team's defense held Mansfield to just one shot, as the Huskies rolled to a 4-0 victory on Saturday in PSAC Eastern Division action at Steph Pettit Stadium.

With the win, Bloomsburg improved to 2-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the PSAC East, while Mansfield fell to 0-2-1 and 0-1-1 in the PSAC East with the defeat.

Right from the opening kickoff on Saturday, Bloomsburg dominated play, keeping the ball on the attacking end from the start.

The first Huskies goal came in the ninth minute, as senior Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) scored off a free kick from junior Campbell Power (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) to give Bloomsburg the early 1-0 lead. For Harris, it was her second goal of the 2021 season, while Power notched her second assist of the season on the play.

In the 21st minute, the Huskies got a golden scoring chance after a Mansfield penalty in the box and made the most of the opportunity, as graduate student Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) buried a penalty kick to put Bloomsburg up, 2-0. Holmes' score was the second of her season.

The 2-0 lead held for the Huskies into halftime and in the second half, the dominance continued for Bloomsburg, as they held Mansfield to no shots in the final 45 minutes of action.

In the 62nd minute, Bloomsburg essentially put the game away, as senior Kate Schlotter (Fountainville, Pa./Central Bucks East) buried a chance right in front of the net to put the Huskies up, 3-0, on the Mountaineers. Holmes was credited with an assist on the play (her first of the year), as Schlotter's goal was her second of the season.

The final tally of the match occurred in the 69th minute on another penalty kick. This time, senior Helen Flynn (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) buried the chance, putting Bloomsburg up for good at 4-0. The goal was the first of the 2021 season for Flynn.

Overall in the victory, the Huskies absolutely dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Mansfield by a wide 15-1 advantage. They also held a staggering 13-0 edge on corner kicks in the victory, as well.

The Huskies return to action Wednesday when they host Shippensburg at Steph Pettit Stadium in PSAC East play. Action gets underway at 4:30 PM.
