CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team split the final day of the California (PA) Vulcan Invitational with a 3-1 win over Frostburg State after dropping a 3-1 decision to Edinboro. Following the weekend, the Huskies improved to 5-3 for the season.

In the first game of the day on Saturday, the Huskies fell to Edinboro 3-1 by set scores of 25-13, 25-27, 25-19, 25-19. Senior
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the team with 12 kills while senior
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) finished with seven kills and three blocks. Senior
Mia Nicholes (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) collected to aces and led the team with eight total blocks.

The Huskies closed out the invitational with a 3-1 win over Frostburg State. Bloomsburg won the first two sets 25-23, 25-18, before the Bobcats snagged a 25-21 win in the third set. BU closed out the match with a 25-13 win to secure the match victory.

As a team, the Huskies hit .173 in the four sets and had a weekend-best 48 kills. Buell led the team with 14 kills while Giza had 11 kills and six blocks.
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) had a season-best 22 assists for the Huskies against Frostburg and finished the weekend with 56 assists between the four matches.

The Huskies get back to action on Friday when they travel to the Atlantic Region Crossover hosted by Wheeling University and West Liberty University in Wheeling and West Liberty, W. Va. The Huskies open the weekend against Fairmont State University on Friday, September 17. The match is set to begin at 3:00 pm.
