WHEELING, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team dropped a pair of close matches on the first day of the Atlantic Region Crossover, Friday afternoon. The Huskies opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Fairmont State before falling to Wheeling University, 3-0, in the night cap.

In their first match of the day, the Huskies battled with Fairmont State but fell by set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20. Senior
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Huskies with 14 kills and two blocks while graduate student
Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) posted 21 digs and sophomore
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out a team-best 12 assists.

As a team, the Huskies hit .153 with 34 total kills and a pair of aces for the match.

In their final match of the evening, the Huskies went toe-to-toe with Wheeling but fell to the Cardinals 25-20, 25-24, 25-23. Buell once again led the Huskies with 13 kills while senior
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) posted 13 as well. Sophomore
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) led the team with six blocks while Espinal dished out a career-best 20 assists and Cianciulli posed 23 digs.

Bloomsburg hit .227 as a team with 39 kills and led the match with four aces and seven total blocks.

The Huskies get back to action on Saturday as they take on West Liberty at 10:00 am and Notre Dame College (Ohio) at 2:00 pm at West Liberty.
