WHEELING, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg University Volleyball team dropped a pair of close matches on the second day of the Atlantic Region Crossover, Saturday afternoon. The Huskies opened Saturday with a 3-0 loss to West Liberty before falling to Notre Dame College (Ohio) 3-2 after going the distance of 5 sets.
In their first match of the day, the Huskies battled with West Liberty but fell short by set scores of 25-21, 25-7, 25-22. Senior
Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) led the Huskies with 6 kills, 10 digs and 1 ace; while graduate student
Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) posted 21 digs, 2 aces and 7 blocks. Senior,
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) followed closely behind Mooney with a total of 5 kills.
In their final match of the tournament, the Huskies went toe-to-toe with Notre Dame (Oh) taking the win on the 3
rd and 4
th set, 26-24 and 25-20, but missed the win by set scores of 25-20, 25-17,15-8. Senior,
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) led the Huskies with 15 kills while seniors,
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) posted a total of 22 kills combined. Junior,
Brooke Kratzer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the team in assists with an impressive 21 while graduate student
Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) led the team in digs with 27 total.
Bloomsburg hit .118 as a team with 54 kills and led the match with 11 aces total. The Huskies fall to a 5-7 record after the Atlantic Region Crossover tournament.
The Huskies are back home at Nelson Field House Friday, September 24 at 7:00 pm as they take on PSAC Conference team, Lock Haven University.
