BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg field hockey team won its fourth-straight game with a 2-1 victory over visiting Lindenwood University, Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Huskies improved to 4-2 on the year while the Lions fell to 4-4 for the year.

The Huskies and Lions played to a scoreless first quarter in which each team was able to only get one shot off. After the quarter break, the Huskies' offense started to warm up. Bloomsburg got off four total shots in the quarter, including two on goal. Sophomore Alicia Carr (Shickshinny, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) scored her third goal of the season at the 23:47 mark as she received a long pass to in front of the cage from sophomore Sam Schaffer (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and popped her shot high over the goalie for the 1-0 Huskies lead.

Bloomsburg had to settle for the 1-0 lead going into halftime despite leading 5-1 in shots and 3-2 in penalty corners.

Carr added to the Husky lead 11 minutes into the third quarter as she received the insert on a penalty corner from freshman Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and delivered a strike past the goalie for the 2-0 lead and her fourth goal of the season.

The Lions got one goal back with just over six minutes to play as Isabella Shannon collected the rebound off a save by junior Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and shot it through traffic to cut the BU lead to 2-1.

The Lions were awarded a penalty corner with 42 seconds left to play but the Bloomsburg defense stepped up and cleared away any scoring chance for the Lions. Lindenwood out-shot the Huskies 7-3 in the final quarter, but never found the equalizer and Bloomsburg hung on for the 2-1 win.

As a team, the Huskies out-shot the Lions 12-10, though Lindenwood held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Shaffer finished the day with five saves while her Lindenwood counterpart Leah Brozovich made four stops.
