#22 Men's Soccer Falls to East Stroudsburg for First Loss of the Year

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The #22 Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped a heart-breaker to East Stroudsburg for the Huskies first loss of the year as the Warriors scored three-unanswered goals in the second half to win 3-2, Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies drop to 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action while the Warriors even their record to 3-3 on the season and open PSAC action 1-0.

It was a tale of two halves for the Huskies as they controlled the pace of play through much of the first period. Bloomsburg led 4-1 in shots in the first 45 minutes and put two of those shots in the back of the net. Freshman Parker Nickelsen (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) got the scoring going for the Huskies. The Bloomsburg front line drew the goalie off of his line and Nickelsen took advantage of the open space and popped a hard shot out of the goalie's reach for his first collegiate goal in the 36th minute.

Redshirt sophomore Collis Heleine (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) added to the Bloomsburg lead in the 39th minute with second goal of the season. After an attempted clear by the Warriors defense, Heleine collected the loose ball in front of the net and nailed a strike from right outside the 18-yard box out of the reach of the diving goalie to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead.

Bloomsburg settled for the two-goal advantage going into halftime as neither team could get a shot off in the final minutes.

Just six minutes into the second half, the Warriors cut the lead to one goal as Bradley Troucy found an empty corner of the net off a cross from Colby Raymond. East Stroudsburg eventually tied it with in the 77th minute before taking its first lead of the game with less than three minutes to play.

Bloomsburg got the final three shots of the game off but two were off target and junior defender Stephen Hollis' (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) shot was saved with 1:09 to play to keep the advantage in favor of ESU. For the second half, the Warriors led in shots, 6-3.

The Huskies and Warriors finished with seven shots each and four shots on goal for both teams. Even Miele made a pair of saves in net for the Warriors while junior Nolan Michaels (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Vincent - St. Mary) made one save for the Huskies.

Hollis led the team with three shots for the contest.

The Huskies get back to action on Saturday as they travel to Lock Haven University for a 1:30 pm PSAC contest.
