Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Heartbreaker to Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped a heart-breaking 2-1 overtime contest to Lock Haven University, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies move to 6-2 on the year and 2-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action. The Bald Eagles improve to 4-1-1 for the year and 2-0 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half for both teams, the Huskies broke the scoreless tie just over three minutes into the second half. Senior Kacper Grycel (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) got his first goal of the season at the 48:18 mark thanks to an assist from junior Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East).

The Bald Eagles just narrowly missed their equalizer in the 65th minute as Andrea DiSomma's shot bounced off of the top crossbar. The Huskies caught a tough break when a handball was called outside the box on the BU goalie which forced a goalie switch.

Freshman Nigel McQueary (Newark, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) stopped the first shot he faced on goal in the 78th minute but the Bald Eagles tied the game with just 15 seconds left in regulation.

The two teams headed into over and Lock Haven got the first and only shot of the extra period off just 2:50 into the extra time and found the back of the net for the 2-1 win.

LHU led 16-10 in shots and 9-6 in corner kicks. Each team got four saves from their goalies, though all four saves for the Bald Eagles came in the first half. Junior Nolan Michaels (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Vincent - St. Mary) made one save in the first have and two in the second while McQueary made one save.

Kacper and sophomore Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) led the team with three shots each.

The Huskies look to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they host Gannon for a PSAC crossover contest at Steph Pettit Stadium at 4:30 pm.
