BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to #20 Gannon Unviersity, Wednesday afternoon. The loss dropped the Huskies to 6-3 on the year while the Golden Knights improved to 6-1 for the season.
Tinashe Katsande got the Golden Knights off to a quick start with the first goal of the game just 54 seconds into action. Senior
Liam Harmon (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) had a chance at the equalizer just under a minute later but was turned away by GU goalie, Maximiliano Rocco. The Huskies continued to shoot but couldn't get one in the back of the net and led the Golden Knights in shots, 5-1 in the fist 27 minutes of play.
Freshman
Nigel McQueary (Newark, NJ/Seton Hall Prep), making his first career start, made an outstanding save on another hard shot from Katsande to keep it a one-goal game at the 28:51 makr. McQueary had two more savs in the next 10 minutes but Sergio Del Castillo found the back of the net for the Golden Knights at the 37:36 mark to give GU a 2-0 lead. The Golden Knights pushed their lead to three with less than two minutes to play in the first half as Katsande scored for the second time in the game.
Katsande finished the scoring with his third with 16:26 to play in the second half to seal the win for Gannon.
Gannon led 12-9 in shots, including a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. Both goalies made six saves for the contest and the Huskies led 6-4 in corner kicks.
The Huskies have the weekend off and return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East foe, West Chester, for a 1:00 pm contest.
