BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East foe, #4 Kutztown University, Wednesday night. With the loss, the Huskies dropped to a 5-3-1 for the year and 4-2-1 in conference play while the Golden Bears remained undefeated with a 7-0 and 5-0 in PSAC action for the year.
The only goal of the game came from Kutztown senior Kayla Argen. Argen short kicked the corner kick to Allie Tierney who gave it back to Argen for the strike from the far side for the 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play.
Huskies senior
Helen Flynn (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) got the first shot off just two minutes into the game but was saved by Kutztown goalie Emme Wolfel. Bloomsburg senior
Alexa Ryan (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) got into the action just eight minutes into the game as Kutztown Argen put up a header shot on goal but was turned away by Ryan. The save set up the corner kick that led to the Golden Bears goal.
At the end of the first half the Huskies had a chance to score off a corner kick by graduate student
Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) to freshman
Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) who put a header shot on goal but was saved by Wolfel.
The Huskies started the second half off strong with a shot on goal by junior
Abby Groff (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and Wolfel closed out her third save for the night. The Huskies and Golden Bears played a hard-fought game for the remainder of the period with one last attempt for a tied game after a foul on Bloomsburg with two minutes remaining. A corner kick from Holmes was deflected away by the Kutztown defense in front of their goal to secure the win.
The Huskies and Bears were tied with three shots each, while Bloomsburg led in corner kicks, 5-1.
Kutztown goalie Wolfle made three saves to secure the shutout and with just three shots on goal, Bloomsburg goalie Ryan made two saves for the night.
The Huskies return to action next Wednesday, October 6, when they travel to PSAC rival, West Chester University for a 3:30 pm contest.
