BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team fell to Kutztown in four sets (25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 23-15) during a home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contest Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (3-15, 1-4 PSAC) took the first set 25-21 after a sharply played game that saw the team record a .300 attacking percentage. However, the Golden Bears (9-7, 3-2 PSAC East) bounced back by winning the next three sets to take the match in four sets.
Bloomsburg finished the game with 50 kills as a team and
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the way with 15.
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) also finished in double figures with 10 kills, and
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) added nine. Bopp also had a solid day defending as she was tied for a team-high four blocks.
Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) also had four, and
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) had two.
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) played the catalyst for the Huskies' attack as the junior setter finished the match with 41 assists. Defensively, freshman libero
Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) had 28 digs to lead the Huskies. Espinal added 17 digs and
Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) had 11.
Kutztown's Adrianna Derstine led all players with 22 kills and Sadie Doss added 16 for the Golden Bears. Derstine added 20 digs and Gianna Agost had 26 digs.
Bloomsburg's volleyball team will be back in action next weekend with another pair of PSAC East games. The Huskies travel to take on Shippensburg on Friday, October 7. Then on Saturday, Bloomsburg travels to Shepherd to take on the Rams.
