Volleyball Snaps Streak, Defeats Shippensburg 3-2

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team stayed strong against a tough Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East opponent, Shippensburg. The Huskies came out on top with a 3-2 win over the Raiders and improved to 4-15 on the year and 2-4 in conference play. Shippensburg dropped to 10-10 and 3-3 in the PSAC East.
 
The Huskies took the first set 25-12 before the Raiders rallied for a 25-20 win to even the match at 25-20. Bloomsburg held on for a 25-22 win in the third before Shippensburg evened the game at 2-2 with a 25-18 win in the fourth. The Huskies fended off a late rally for a 15-7 win in the final set.
 
Leading the way for Bloomsburg was freshman Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) with 11 kills and 10 digs, while senior Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) hit .259 for the match with 11 kills on 27 attempts and just four errors. Junior Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) finished the day with eight kills and four block assists.
 
Freshman Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) led the way with 41 digs as the Huskies' held the Raiders to a 0.042 hitting day behind just 47 kills and 39 errors on 191 attempts. The Huskies totaled 89 digs for the day. Antigua and senior Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) each finished with ten digs.
 
Senior Brooke Kratzer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) dished out a team-best 18 assists, Stek finished with 16, and Robson had seven.
 
As a team, the Huskies hit .139 for the match while posting their best hitting set in the first. The Huskies opened the day, hitting .313 in the first set with 11 kills and just one error on 32 attempts. Conversely, the Raiders hit -0.117 in the first set behind six kills and 10 errors on 34 attempts.Husk
 
 
The Huskies kept the Raiders to a .042 hitting day in their first win in Shippensburg in program history. The Raiders had a -0.029 hitting day in the final set, which the Huskies won 15-7.
 
The 0.042 hitting day for the Raiders was their second-lowest of the season, only behind a 0.025 day against Clarion. Their 39 errors were the Raiders' highest error total of the season.
 
Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday when the Huskies travel to Shepherd University for a 4:00 p.m. PSAC Each showdown.
