BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic (PSAC) Women's Tennis Championships concluded Monday at Bloomsburg's home courts in the Burt Reese Tennis Center on upper campus.
The Huskies saw two players compete in the conference's singles championships, and one tandem of players qualified for the doubles portion of the event.
In the singles event,
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) swept Shippensburg's Kendall Winters in a first round singles match by securing a 6-0 victory to advance to the Round of 16. The other competitor for the Huskies in the women's single was
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), who fell to IUP's Natalie Kmoskova.
In women's doubles, the team of
Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) and
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) fell to California's (Pa.) Leandra Guldimann and Maria Del Mar Ojeda in a tough 9-8 decision during a Round of 16 matchup.
IUP's Karolin Kirchtag won the singles championship by defeating Mercyhurst's Kayla Dean in two sets. In the doubles championship, Dean paired up with her Mercyhurst teammate Roisin Murphy to win a conference title.
The Huskies women's team will be back in action this coming weekend with the Bloomsburg Invite at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
