Field Hockey Falls to #3 East Stroudsburg on Wednesday

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University field team dropped a 3-0 decision to #3 East Stroudsburg University Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies fell to 6-5 on the year, and 1-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play, while the Warriors improved to 9-1 and 2-1 in the conference.

The Warriors out-shot Bloomsburg 13-7, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalie Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had a strong day in the cage for BU with eight saves, while Amy Supey made six saves for ESU. The Huskies held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Meghan Longenhagen (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) led the Huskies with three shots, all on cage, while senior Carlee Williams (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had two and put one on cage.

The Warriors jumped to the early lead with two goals in the first quarter. Lia Parker scored the first at the 8:56 mark before Hanna Lewis gave the host's a 2-0 lead with a goal with less than three to play in the opening frame.

The Huskies tested Supey throughout the second quarter as they put three shots on cage in six minutes of gameplay, one by sophomores Bella Culp (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and one from Longenhagen. All three shots came from penalty corner opportunities.

ESU added a goal in the third to push its lead to 3-0 with 15 minutes to play. Williams got a shot off for the Huskies in the fourth and was denied by Supey after a penalty corner with nine minutes to play. Shaffer saved the next ESU shot before Culp picked a defensive save on the last shot on target by the Warriors. Longenhagen's last attempt with 30 seconds to play was stopped, and the Warriors held on to win 3-0.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they host #6 IUP for the Breast Cancer Awareness game at 1:00 p.m.
