BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University field hockey team handed the sixth-ranked IUP Crimson Hawks their second-straight loss as the Huskies won 2-0 Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 7-5 on the year and 2-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action, while IUP dropped to 6-4 and 1-2 in conference play.
Â
With less than four to play in the first quarter, senior
Meghan Longenhagen (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) collected the rebound off her shot and snuck another shot behind the IUP goalie for the 1-0 BU lead.
With 10 minutes to play in the second quarter, the Crimson Hawks put pressure on the Huskies' defense as Paeton Hartmann's shot off a penalty corner was blocked, and Jess Davidson set a shot just wide of the cage. IUP kept the ball in its offensive side, and Mia Hutchinson put a shot on cage that senior
Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) stopped. IUP got two more penalty corners, but the BU defense held off any attack from the Crimson Hawks to keep the shutout intact. Sophomore

Â
After a scoreless third quarter for both teams, the Huskies got an insurance goal with just under three minutes to play. Longenhagen put a shot on cage that Zaner knocked away in the air. Sophomore
Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) was waiting to bat it home for her third goal of the season.
Â
Shaffer stopped a last-ditch shot as time was winding down by Roos van Herel, and the Huskies picked up the 2-0 win over #6 IUP.
