KUTZTOWN – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team received a clutch goal by
Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) late in the first half that was able to lift the Huskies to a 1-0 win over Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest Wednesday.
Foster was able to score her goal during a free kick that was sent into the box by
Campbell Power (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) and headed over the goalkeeper by
Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) right to Foster, who gathered the ball in front of the open net and scored the game-winning goal.
The goal was enough for Bloomsburg's (11-3, 9-3 PSAC East) stout defense, which held Kutztown (7-3-3, 6-3-3 PSAC East) scoreless for 90 minutes of play to pick its third straight shutout victory.
Bloomsburg's back line of defense only allowed four shots on goal, and senior goalkeeper
Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) saved all of them as she picked up her eighth shutout on the year. Spingler's eight shutouts are tied for the most in the PSAC and she raised her save percentage to .880, which is the second-highest in the conference.
For Foster, the goal was her second score of the year and she is one of five players to have two goals for the Huskies this season. So far this year, Bloomsburg has received 22 goals from 10 different players in 14 games. The game-winning goal was Foster's first go-ahead score of the year, and she is now one of six different Husky players to score a game-winning goal this season.
The assist for Hondros is her third of the year, which is tied for the second-most on the team with
Lauren Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia).
Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) leads the squad with five assists, and that number is tied for the most in the PSAC.
Bloomsburg will have its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, which is when it hosts Millersville (1-6-5, 1-5-5 PSAC East) for Senior Night. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM and it is the first game of a doubleheader as the men's team is set to host Lock Haven at 6:30 PM.
