BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The women's tennis team closed out its fall season over the weekend with its Bloomsburg Invitational.
At the invitational, four different individuals pulled off victories in singles competitions and four sets of partners won doubles events.
In singles,
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) won two matches in three sets during the first and second rounds of competitions. Ilkovic was one of three Bloomsburg players to win a pair of matches as she was joined by Maddie Deliso and
Juliana Kim (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Memorial High School). Deliso won her first round and third round matches in two sets while Kim was victorious in the first and second rounds.
Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area) was also a winner in singles competitions as the sophomore beat Forstburg's Rabiatu Ladan.
In doubles competitions, four sets of different teams won matches. In the first round,
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) and
Luana Bernardi (Aruja, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) teamed up to beat a duo from Clarion. Mazurek and
Alese Rinker (/) also won in the first round, beating a team from Lafayette by a final of 6-4.
In the second round of doubles, Ilkovic and
Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) won a match over a Lafayette tandem by a score of 6-3.
Quackenbush and Bernardi teamed up again in the third round to win their second match of a doubles competition, and this time they blanked a team from Clarion 6-0. Mazurek also won her second doubles match of the day in the third round, but this time she paired up with Deliso to beat a tandem from Frostburg 6-0.
The Bloomsburg Invite brings a close to the Huskies fall season as they now hit a break until their spring season of competition. The Huskies will start back up in the spring with their first event being at St. Francis (Pa.) on February 4.
