BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team fell to West Chester in four sets during a home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup Saturday evening.
After dropping the first two sets, the Huskies (5-18, 3-7 PSAC) won the third set by a final tally of 25-19 to force a fourth set with West Chester (18-7, 6-4 PSAC).
In the fourth set, Bloomsburg trailed the Golden Rams 24-18 before the Huskies rallied and scored five straight points to bring the game back within one at 24-23. West Chester was able to record the next point, however, to escape a tiebreaker set and take the win.
Bloomsburg's
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) led the team in kills (14) and aces (2). Antigua had two sets in which she recorded five kills, and the freshman outside hitter added eight digs and one assist.
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) was second on the team with eight kills and
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) had seven, four of which came in the third set and were crucial to helping the Huskies force a fourth set.
Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) had three kills in the third set and finished with five.
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) also had five kills and three of them came in the opening set.
Bopp and Jackson led the team in blocks with five apiece, and Antigua added four.
The third set saw Bloomsburg finish with an attacking percentage of .226 – its best of the night and the second best of either team during the contest. However, the front line of West Chester was a key to the game as it limited several scoring opportunities for Bloomsburg. The Golden Rams finished the game with 12 blocks and limited Bloomsburg's attacking percentage to .113 for the night.
West Chester's Nicole Dimiris had eight blocks while Elise Smith had seven.
Bloomsburg's defensive specialist
Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) led the Huskies with 22 digs.
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) had a team-high 29 assists and added nine kills.
Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) had seven assists to go along with seven digs and one ace.
Bloomsburg will return to action with a home contest against Shippensburg (14-11, 6-4 PSAC) on Friday. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM inside the Nelson Field House.
