Volleyball Falls to Shippensburg in Four Sets, 3-1, Friday Evening

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team split the first two sets with visiting Shippensburg, but the Raiders rallied for a 3-1 win over the Huskies Friday afternoon. Bloomsburg dropped to 5-19 for the year and 3-8 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action, while the Raiders improved to 15-11 and 7-4 in PSAC East play.
 
The Raiders took the first set 25-20 before Bloomsburg returned for a 25-17 set two win to tie the match at 1-1. Shippensburg rallied for an early deficit to take the third set 25-21 before closing the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth.
 
As a team, the Huskies hit .148 for the match with 38 kills and 17 errors on 142 attempts, while the Raiders hit .176 for the game with 62 kills and 31 errors on 176 attempts. Leading the attack for Bloomsburg was freshman Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) with 10 kills and just two errors for a .242 hitting day. Antigua added seven digs and four block assists.
 
Defensively, freshman Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) led the Huskies with 32 digs, including 11 in the opening set. Robson leads the PSAC in digs per set, as she is averaging 6.12 digs per set against other PSAC opponents. She has 388 total digs so far this season.
 
Junior Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) led the Huskies at the net with 4.5 total blocks, including 7.0 block assists and a solo. Graduate student Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) posted 6.0 block assists and a solo block for 4.0 total blocks. Buell added seven kills, and Jackson finished the night with five.
 
Junior Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out a team-best 35 assists and had nine digs.
 
Bloomsburg had double-digit kills in the first and third set and hit a team-best .281 (11-2-32) in the opening game.
 
The Huskies return to action on Saturday as they host Shepherd University for a 1:00 p.m. PSAC East match-up. Before the match, the Huskies will honor their six seniors, Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), Julia Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), Brooke Kratzer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Sarah Mace (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil Academy), Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin), and Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor).
