Women's Soccer Shuts Out 6th Straight Opponent, Blanks ESU 2-0

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team held its sixth straight opponent scoreless and received a pair of goals from different players as the team beat East Stroudsburg 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Huskies (13-3-1, 11-3-1 PSAC East) rattled off eight shots in the first half, but it wasn't until the closing minute of the opening frame that the team would score the first goal of the game. It was sophomore defender Erin Ranegan (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) who put the Huskies on top 1-0 with 44 seconds remaining in the half, and she was able to score her first goal of the year by heading in a corner kick that was sent into the box by Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South).

Ranegan's goal would be good enough for the Huskies to top East Stroudsburg (9-6-2, 7-6-2 PSAC East) as the team's stellar defense held the Warriors scoreless for 90 minutes despite the home team taking 14 shots in the game. Bloomsburg goalkeeper Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) was a perfect 9-for-9 on save opportunities to pick up her 10th shutout of the year.

The Huskies offense rattled off 12 shots in the second half and it was a goal by Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) in the 83rd minute that made the contest a two-score game and put the game away. Foster was able to score her third goal of the season on a shot just in front of the net that was set up by Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South), who had a nice run up the left side of the field before delivering a timely pass to Foster.

Along with its shutout performance on the defensive end, Bloomsburg was able to hold the advantage in the attacking end as the Huskies outshot the Warriors 20-14. Bloomsburg also had eight corners to East Stroudsburg's two.

Prior to Wednesday's contest, the Huskies clinched the No. 2 seed in the East for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. Bloomsburg will host a quarterfinals game Tuesday against an opponent that is to be determined.

Bloomsburg will close out its regular season on Saturday with an away contest at Shippensburg (6-6-5, 5-5-5 PSAC East). The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 PM.
