Women's Soccer Ties Shippensburg, 1-1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 1-1 tie against Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contest Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (13-3-2, 11-3-2 PSAC East) were able to get on the scoreboard fairly early and jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Campbell Power (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) scored in the 13th minute, but a second-half goal by Shippensburg (6-6-6, 5-5-6 PSAC East) in the 66th minute knotted things back up for the 90-minute tie.

Power's goal was her first of the year, and it came on a perfectly kicked ball into the top right-hand corner of the net from just outside the box. The score was set up by Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel), who recorded her second assist of the season on the play.

Bloomsburg goalkeeper Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and the Huskies' back line of defense was able to hold Shippensburg scoreless for the remainder of the half as the team took a 1-0 lead into the break.

However, the Raiders were able to tie the score up at 1-1 when Olivia Stephen gathered a loose ball inside the box and delivered a clean kick into the right-hand side of the goal. Stephen's goal was her second of the year, and it snapped a scoreless streak that saw Bloomsburg's defense hold opponents scoreless for 606 straight minutes.

Bloomsburg was able to get five more shots off in the second half following Shippensburg's goal, but two were saved by Raiders goalkeeper Morgan Molyneaux and three were off target. The Raiders had two shot attempts in the final 24 minutes, but one was saved by Spingler and the other was not on target.

Bloomsburg outshot Shippensburg by a final tally of 27-10 in the contest. The Huskies had 10 of those shots on target while the Raiders had five.

Spingler came away with four saves on the day while Molyneaux had nine. Bloomsburg held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-3.

The tie closes out the regular season for the Huskies, who are the No. 2 seed for the PSAC Tournament and are scheduled to host No. 3 seed Kutztown (9-4-4, 8-4-4 PSAC East) for a quarterfinals matchup on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 PM.
