No. 2 Women's Soccer Set to Host No. 3 Kutztown in PSAC Quarterfinals

Bloomsburg women's soccer opens the 2022 PSAC Women's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday. November 1 as they host No. 3 Kutztown in the quarterfinals. The Huskies earned the No. 2 seed for the second-straight year and look to repeat as PSAC champions. Game time is set for 6:00 pm at Steph Pettit Stadium.

THE GAME

The Huskies and Golden Bears square off for the third time this season. Bloomsburg came out on top 1-0 in both regular season contests between the two teams. The Huskies come into Tuesday's game after tying their last two regular season contests and are on a seven-game unbeaten streak while the Golden Bears are 2-1-1 since losing 1-0 to the Huskies back on October 12.

Riley Spingler has led a lock-down defense for the Huskies this season. She is 13-3-2 on the year with 10 solo shut outs and three combined. Her 0.40 goals against average is second-best in the PSAC and fourth-best in the NCAA. She has a .903 save percentage, also second-best in the PSAC and fourth in the NCAA.

Nicole Varano is having a stellar final season on the pitch for the Huskies. She leads the team with nine goals and has six game-winning tallies, which is fourth in the NCAA and leads the PSAC. Varano added a pair of assists for 20 points this year. She is just one goal and four points off of her career-best totals (10 goals, 4 assists - 24 points in 2019). 

Paige Harris is second on the team with nine points and leads the team with five assists this season. She has a pair of game-winning goals and is fifth in the conference in total assists, assists per game, and 11th in game-winners. Her four assists this season are a career-high for the senior.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS

Kutztown comes into the game with a 9-4-4 overall record and an 8-4-4 mark in the PSAC East. The Golden Bears are led by Kayla Argen with seven goals and six assists for 22 points this year. Isabella Rossetti is second on the year with six goals while Lexy Endrew has three goals and three assists for nine points. Caroline McDonald also has nine points behind three goals and three assists. 

In goal, the Golden Bears have Emma Wolfel stopping shots. Wolfel has a 0.78 goals against average and a 0.772 save percentage. She boasts a 9-4-4 record with six solo shutouts and one combined.

Following the quarterfinals, the tournament heads to the highest remaining seed in the West for the seminfinals on Friday and championship game on Sunday. No. 1 Gannon hosts No. 4 Seton Hill and No. 2 Mercyhurst hosts No. 3 Slippery Rock in the West's quarterfinal games.
