Softball Falls to Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Florida Southern Tuesday afternoon. The Mocs took the first game 3-1 before completing the sweep with an 8-0 win in six innings in the nightcap.

The Huskies struck first in game one as Erin DelPierre (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) led off the second with a single up the middle. Danielle Barnes (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) moved her to second with a sac bunt before Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) reached an error by the second baseman, and DelPierre came around to score.

The lead was short-lived as Florida Southern put up two runs on two hits in the bottom of the inning. The Mocs pushed their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth as one run came home on two hits and one Bloomsburg error.

Bloomsburg had two runners on with one out in the top of the seventh, but an unlucky line-drive double play ended the inning, game, and any scoring threat.

Little led BU with a pair of hits in game one.

Florida Southern carried the momentum from game one into the second game as the Mocs put up one run in the first and three insurance runs in the second. After a scoreless third, FSC added two more in the fourth and one run in each the fifth and sixth innings to complete the 8-0 win.

The Huskies will have Wednesday off before facing Dominican College and Pace University on March 17 for the parade.
