Kilgallon Nets OT Winner as Women's Lacrosse Downs Shippensburg, 12-11

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team needed just 1:16 of overtime to seal the come-from-behind overtime win, 12-11, over Shippensburg University on Tuesday. The Huskies pushed their winning streak to five and opened the year 3-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With 11 seconds to go in regulation and trailing by 11 seconds, freshman Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) stopped a free position shot and started a clear for the Huskies. Foley sent the ball down the field, and Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) eventually picked it up in the Huskies' offensive third. Roberts got her shot off just as time expired to tie the game 11-11.

Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) won the draw to open the first overtime period to get the Huskies on offense first. As time expired on the shot clock, Kilgallon drilled home her 21st goal of the season to send the Huskies home with a 12-11 win.

Clauss opened the game with her 11th tally of the season at the 11:54 mark before Shippensburg went back-to-back within 30 seconds to take a 2-1 lead in the first quarter. Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) benefited from a pass from Kilgallon and found the back of the net for the ninth time this season to tie the game at 4-4 with 5:20 to play in the opening period.

Shippensburg answered with a goal at the 4:31 mark in the first, and Williams and Roberts scored back-to-back goals to give the Huskies a 4-3 lead. Hannah Seifried ended the period with her third of the quarter to tie the game 4-4.

The score remained tied for the rest of the first and midway through the second until Gabby Savarino gave Shippensburg a 5-4 lead. Williams tied the game back at 5-5 with 4:22 to play, but the Raiders out-scored Bloomsburg 4-1 over the final 3:51 of the quarter to take a 9-6 lead into halftime.

Bloomsburg rattled off three-straight goals to open the third period, including a pair from Kilgallon and Roberts second of the game to tie the score 9-9 after three quarters of action.

Seifried put the Raiders up 10-9 at the 10:47 mark of the fourth before Clauss tied the game at 10-10 with 8:19 to go. Bailey Krahl gave Shippensburg its last lead of the game with her seventh of the season at the 4:14 mark before the Huskies' last-second, and overtime goals gave BU the win.

Shippensburg won the draw control battle 14-11, but the Huskies held a 12-8 lead in saves.

Foley had a career-high 12 saves in the win while Kilgallon led the Huskies with six points behind four goals and two assists. Kilgallon is now just nine points shy of 100 for her career. Roberts finished the day with three goals and an assist for four points.

Clauss and Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) won three draws while Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led the defense with two caused turnovers and five ground balls.

On Saturday, Bloomsburg continues its road swing as the Huskies travel to West Chester University for a 1:00 pm PSAC East contest.
