Lacrosse Completes the Season-Series Sweep of Kutztown with 13-10 Win

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team survived held of a surging Kutztown University for a 13-10 win, Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies completed the season series sweep of the Golden Bears and improved to 9-4 for the year and 5-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action.

With 10:43 to play in the fourth quarter, Lailah ElBouazzaoui found the back of the net for Kutztown to cut the Bloomsburg lead to 11-9. Head coach Shannon Hertz called a time out to help reset her team. Following the timeout, senior Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) won the draw control to give the Huskies possession. Just a minute later, junior Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) got an assist from Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) for her 20th goal of the season and extended the Huskies' lead to 12-9.

Clauss won the next draw to ensure the Huskies kept possession and Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) gave BU a four-goal lead with her 14th of the year at the 9:08 mark. Once again, Rollins dished out an assist on a crucial Husky goal.

Both teams were held scoreless until the 5:23 mark when Morgan Hurd scored on a free position shot to trim the lead back to three, 13-10. The Husky defense was disruptive enough to keep the Golden Bears from scoring in the final five minutes and the Huskies held on for the 13-10 win.

Bloomsburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half thanks to a pair of goals from Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and a goal from Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale). After Kutztown got a goal back, Rollins ended the quarter with a goal at the 23 second mark to give BU a 4-1 lead.

Kilgallon opened the second quarter with her third of the game just over a minute into action before Sam Graf kept it a three-goal game with her second of the game at the 12:07 mark. Kilgallon scored twice more in the quarter while Stoll added another for the Huskies. BU took a 8-2 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Kutztown got on the board first to cut the lead to 8-3. Clauss pushed the advantage back to six, 9-3, at the 11:18 mark. Kilgallon followed with her fourth of the game to extend the lead to 10-3 with 8:25 to play. The Golden Bears went on a four-goal run that carried over into the fourth quarter to cut the lead to three, 10-7, and set up the Huskies defensive stand.

The Huskies out-shot Kutztown 31-23 and held an important 18-9 advantage in draw controls.

Kilgallon led the team with six goals and an assist while Kalish won a team-best seven draw controls. Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led the team with four ground balls while Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made eight saves in the win.
