Kilgallon Reaches Career Milestone, Lacrosse Downs Shepherd 14-10 on Saturday

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Huskies got back in the winning column on Saturday as the Bloomsburg University lacrosse team held off Shepherd University for a 14-10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East victory. Seven different Huskies scored for BU, including Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), who reached the 100-point career milestone early in the second quarter.

Kilgallon came into the game needing just two points to reach 100 for her career at Bloomsburg and quickly took care of business. With 2:15 to play in the first quarter, Kilgallon gave the Huskies the 3-2 lead with an unassisted strike after a Shepherd foul. Bloomsburg did not relinquish the advantage for the rest of the contest. Kilgallon hit her milestone with 13:42 to go in the second as she assisted on Annie Rollins's (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) tally that gave the Huskies a 4-2 advantage.

The Rams got a goal back just under 30 seconds later to cut the deficit to one, 4-3, at the 13:17 mark, but the Huskies strung together five-straight goals to push their advantage to 9-3 at the end of the half. Kilgallon was responsible for three-straight goals while Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) kicked off the run at the 7:58 mark, and Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) scored the last goal of the half with just 2:13 to play.

Shepherd did go quietly, however, and outscored the Huskies 4-0 during the third quarter to pull back to within two, 9-7, with 15 minutes to play. Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) opened the fourth with her only goal at the 13:06 mark to give the Huskies a three-goal advantage, 10-7, and Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) pushed the lead back to four, 11-7, with her only goal of the game. Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) found the back of the net for the second time at the 9:24 mark, and Kilgallon scored her fifth of the game with 7:07 to play as the Huskies led 13-7. Kalish scored her second and last goal with 6:07 to play to give the Huskies a sizeable 14-7 lead.

The Rams hung around and went on a three-goal run in just over a minute of gameplay between the 4:32 and 3:17 mark to cut the lead to 14-10. Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made a pair of saves in the final three minutes of action, and the defense disrupted the Rams' offense to hang on for the 14-10 win.

Kilgallon led the Huskies with five goals and one assist, while Rollins, Kalish, and Williams each found the back of the net twice. Kalish won a team-best five draw controls.

Foley finished the day with 13 saves in the win, and Roberts and Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) had a pair of caused turnovers. Biehl, Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), and Amanda Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) all had three ground balls.

The Huskies and Rams were even with 28 shots apiece and 21 ground balls each, while BU held a slight 24-23 advantage in shots on goal. Shepherd had a 16-12 edge in draw controls.

Bloomsburg continues its road trip on Wednesday when the Huskies visit Kutztown University for a 4:00 pm PSAC East contest.
