CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team fell to Virginia State in five sets and dropped a 3-0 match to Charleston at the Charleston Tournament Friday night.

The Huskies and Virginia State went back and forth in a thrilling five-set match, but the Trojans prevailed. Bloomsburg took the first set 25-17 before VSU took the second and third, 25-12, 25-23. The Huskies came back in the fourth to win 25-19 before Virginia State narrowly edged the Huskies, 15-13, in the final set.

Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) had a career-best 18 kills for the match, while
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) finished with six aces.
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) made six blocks, and
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out 33 assists.
Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) finished the day with 20 digs while Espinal chipped in 14 and Antigua 13.

As a team, the Huskies hit .155 for the match with 44 kills and 27 errors on 154 attempts. The Huskies had 12 total aces and 9.0 digs in the five sets.

The Huskies fell to the University of Charleston in three, 25-12, 25-12, 25-16, to cap the night.

Warfel again led the Huskies with 11 kills, while
Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) had five. Espinal had the lone BU ace and dished out 26 assists, while Robson led Bloomsburg with 15 digs. Bopp turned in a pair of blocks against Charleston, and Warfel and Jackson each had one.

The Huskies hit .104 as a team with 29 kills and 18 errors in 106 attempts.

For the first day, Warfel led the Huskies with 29 kills and hit .250 with just 11 errors on 72 attempts. Espinal had 59 assists between the two matches, and Robson had 34 digs.

The Huskies hit .108 as a team with 73 kills and 45 errors on 260 attempts.
Bloomsburg gets back to action Saturday against Belmont Abbey at 12:00 p.m. and Salem at 5:00 p.m.
