CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team ended the Charleston Tournament on a high note as the Huskies knocked off Salem in straight sets in their final match of the weekend. The Huskies opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Belmont Abbey.

The Huskies cruised to the win against Salem by scores of 25-11, 25-17, 25-18, in straight sets.

Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) led the team with eight kills,
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) finished with six, and
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) had five. Antigua posted four aces as well for the Huskies.
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out 32 assists in the match,
Maura Uschock (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) finished the day with 17 digs, and Antigua had 16.

As a team, the Huskies hit .176 against Salem behind 35 kills and 17 errors on 102 attempts. Bloomsburg's defense limited Salem to a -.041 hitting day on 17 kills and 21 errors on 98 attempts.
The Huskies jumped to a quick 8-3 lead in the first set and never looked back. Back-to-back kills from Warfel and Jackson extended the Huskies' lead to 21-9 before an ace from Uschock made it a 23-9 advantage for BU. Salem got a pair of points back to cut the lead to 23-11 before a service error and kill by
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) closed out the set for the Huskies, 25-11.

The second set was a battle back and forth until the Huskies went on a five-point run thanks to a kill from Jackson, a pair of Salem errors, and a kill from Warfel. Uschock capped the run with a service ace to give Bloomsburg a 20-15 lead. The Huskies wrapped up the set with a 5-1 run to seal the 25-17 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

After Salem took an 8-6 lead in the third set, Bloomsburg rattled off six-straight points to lead 12-8 and essentially take over the set. The Huskies eventually extended the advantage to 20-10 before Salem went on a 5-1 run to cut the lead to 21-15.

Antigua halted the run with a kill, but the two teams traded the following seven points as the Huskies came out on top, 25-18, for the match win.

In the day's opening match, the Huskies dropped a four-set match to Belmont Abbey by scores 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25.

Warfel and Antigua each had 14 kills while Espinal dished out 36 assists and Uschock finished the day with 22 digs.

As a team, the Huskies hit .191 for the match with 47 kills and 20 errors on 141 attempts.

In their second set win, the Huskies hit .270 as a team with 15 kills on 37 attempts and five errors. They had their best set at the net in the fourth as they hit .293 with 15 kills and just three errors on 41 attempts.

The Huskies hit the hardwood at Nelson Field House for the first time this season as they host Susquehanna on Tuesday, September 13, at 6:00 pm.
