BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team opened its 2022-23 season at the rain-shortened Bloomsburg Invitational on Saturday. The Huskies picked up seven wins on the day between the doubles and singles flights.

In the No. 2 doubles flight,
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) and
Anna Chikhalenko (Birmingham, Mich./Wylie F. Groves) defeated Eloise Hutton and Cara Long from Davis & Elkins, 8-3, before falling to Marie Discini and Samantha Quezada of St. Francis, 8-2.

Quackenbush earned her second win of the day as she defeated Hutton of D&E a second time in the No. 2 singles flight, 4-1, 5-3.

Chikhalenko picked up two more wins for the day in singles action as she beat Uliana Nedelko of Mercyhurst 4-0, 4-1 in the first round of the No. 4 singles flight and Long 4-0, 4-2 in the second round to move into the championship match of the flight, unfortunately the rain cut Chikhalenko's run to a top-place finish short.

Alese Rinker (/) also found herself in the first-place match of her singles flight as she won her first two matches at No. 5. Rinker defeated Heidi Daniels of D&E 4-0, 4-1 to open the day and Sara McComas of Millersville 4-0, 4-0 to move to the first-place match. Rinker was scheduled for face off against Olivia Anastos of Lock Haven before the rain cancelations.

Brooke Henry (Saint Mary's, PA/Saint Mary's Area) got a bye through the first round of the No. 6 singles flight and defeated Mary Hillman of Lock Haven 5-3, 2-4, 10-8 in her only match of the weekend for the top spot in the bracket.

The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, September 14 when they host Chestnut Hill for a 3:00 pm contest. The match was originally scheduled for Monday, September 12 but was moved due to the forecasted rain.
