LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw with Lock Haven University during a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest on Wednesday evening.
The Huskies (4-1-1, 0-0-1 PSAC East) and Bald Eagles (2-4-1, 0-1-1 PSAC East) both had several opportunities to score throughout, but it was to no avail as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard through 90 minutes of play.
Bloomsburg had its best effort to score in the second half as the team fired off eight total shots in the frame. The team's best chance to score came in the closing minute when
Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) flipped a touch pass to
Shay Gillen (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) in the attacking end of the field with 1:31 left on the clock. Gillen dribbled past a Lock Haven defender who fell while trying to kick the ball loose, and the freshman midfielder put a shot on goal in a one-on-one situation with Bald Eagles' goalkeeper, Aitor Ruiz De Eguilaz. Ruiz De Eguilaz was able to get a hand on Gillen's shot, which went over the net and out of play to neutralize the scoring threat.
Bloomsburg's ensuing corner kick was sent to the wide side of the field and the Huskies were able to retain possession after the pass went outside of the box, but the squad was unable to get a shot off before turning the ball over. The clock ran out with the ball at midfield as Lock Haven tried to push the ball into the attacking end for one last scoring attempt.
The Huskies finished the contest with 11 total shots, six of which were on goal. Lock Haven took eight shots in 90 minutes of play and three of them were on target.
Lock Haven held the advantage on corner kicks, 9-5.
Bloomsburg goalkeeper
Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) finished the game with three saves.
The Huskies will resume play in the PSAC East with a home contest against West Chester (6-1, 3-0 PSAC East) on Saturday. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM and it is the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
