Three Second Half Goals Lifts West Chester Past Men's Soccer

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped a tightly battled Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contest to West Chester University, 3-2, Saturday afternoon. West Chester used three late second-half goals to improve to 7-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play, while the Huskies dropped to 4-2-1 and 0-1-1 in PSAC action.

Trailing 2-0 with 28 minutes to play, the Golden Rams got on the board thanks to a penalty kick goal from Andrew Markopoulos. AJ Peev tied the game at 2-2 just six minutes later in the 69th minute, and Landon Wenger buried the game-winner in the 72nd minute for West Chester.

The Huskies got on the board first early in the opening half. Bloomsburg earned a corner kick just 3:50 into action. Graduate student Olly Whitham (Clitheroe, Lancashire, England/Settle College) put the ball in the box at the far post, and freshman Kody Besser (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) got his body on the ball, which sent it to the feet of sophomore Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland). Wilsterman finished his touch in traffic past the goalie for the 1-0 Bloomsburg lead.

The Huskies carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime before senior Liam Harmon (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute. After working the ball down the field, Wilsterman got the ball to freshman Shay Gillen (Archbald, Pa./Valley View). On the run, Gillen led Harmon to the far post with a great pass through the box, and Harmon slid the ball out of the goalie's reach for the 2-0 lead.

Nine minutes later, the Golden Rams got on the board and scored three unanswered goals for the 3-2 win.

Wilsterman led the Huskies with six shots while the Golden Rams out-shot Bloomsburg 15-13, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Sophomore Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) finished the day with six saves, including four in the second half.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shepherdstown, W.Va., for a PSAC East showdown with Shepherd University. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
