Men's Soccer Picks Up PSAC East Win Over Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team picked up its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East win as the Huskies knocked off Shepherd University, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon. Bloomsburg improved to 5-2-1 for the year and 1-1-1 in conference play, while the Rams dropped to 1-5-2 and 0-4 against conference opponents.

After a scoreless first half, the Huskies struck first in the 52nd minute as they were the beneficiaries of an own goal by the Rams. Shepherd evened the score just five minutes later as Steven Choque headed the ball home.

Bloomsburg reciprocated the header goal after another five minutes as Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) sent a free kick off a foul into the box and freshman Kody Besser (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) headed it home to give Bloomsburg a 2-1 lead with less than 28 minutes to play.

Sophomore Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) put another shot on the net in the 66th minute, but his attempt was stopped by the Rams' goalie, Billy Wood.

Bloomsburg's keeper, Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area), faced a barrage of shots as the Rams were awarded three straight corners and got a shot off each one. The Rams' first shot went out wide, but the next was on target but stopped by Rimple. The Bloomsburg defense blocked Shepherd's shot in the 75th minute.

Bloomsburg got three final shots off in the last five minutes of the game, but a pair were blocked, and Wood saved Parker Nickelsen's (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) final chance as the Huskies walked away with a 2-1 win.

Schlee led the team with six shots, five on net, while Olly Whitham (Clitheroe, Lancashire, England/Settle College) and Mark Lee (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) each had two. Rimple finished the day with five saves while Wood made six stops for Shepherd.

The Huskies return home on Saturday, September 24, as they host East Stroudsburg University for a 5:30 p.m. PSAC East contest at Steph Pettit Stadium.
