Men's Soccer Shuts Out East Stroudsburg For Second-Straight Win

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team scored a goal in each half to take down East Stroudsburg, 2-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 6-2-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in conference action, while the Warriors dropped to 3-6 and 2-2 in PSAC East play.

Just past the midway point of the first half, sophomore Patrick Walsh (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) scored what turned out to be the game-winner for the Huskies. Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) sent a loose ball into the box with a long pass, and Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon) headed toward Walsh. Walsh bounced it off his chest and finished with a bicycle kick goal to give BU a 1-0 lead with 20:22 to play in the half.

The Huskies defense stood up to four straight corner kicks by the Warriors in a minute and a half to keep ESU off the board. Walsh took one final shot for the Huskies with 33 seconds to go in the half, but his shot went wide, and the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Ames found the back of the net himself in the 62nd minute to give the Huskies a 2-0 cushion. Sophomore Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) tried to push the lead to 3-0, but his shot was saved by the Warriors' keeper, Brayden Evans.

Abdulla Nuredini put the final shot on net for the Warriors in the 65th minute, but sophomore keeper Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) turned him away to keep the shutout intact. Ethan Flickinger had the game's final shot in the 88th minute, but it was off target, and the Huskies walked away with a 2-0 win.

The Huskies held a slight 10-9 advantage in shots while Rimple finished the day with four saves. ESU led 7-5 in corner kicks, including a 6-3 advantage in the first half.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday when they host Shippensburg University for a 7:30 p.m. PSAC East match-up at Steph Pettit Stadium.
