#22 Women's Soccer Cruises to a 2-0 Win Over Lock Haven

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The #22 Bloomsburg University women's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals and its traditionally stingy defense to power its way to a 2-0 win over Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action, Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 7-1 for the year and 5-1 in conference action. The Bald Eagles fell to 3-3-1 and 1-3-1 in the PSAC East.

Senior Paige Harris (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) got the Huskies on the board early with her second goal of the season. After a rocket of a shot by junior Lauren McIntyre (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) banged off the top crossbar, Harris collected the ricochet and buried her shot just out of reach of the Lock Haven keeper to give BU a 1-0 lead 8:13 into action.

The Huskies didn't waste time pushing their lead to 2-0. Harris put a perfect cross into the box for graduate student Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) who flicked her shot right over the goalie's hands for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

With a 2-0 lead early in the half, the Huskies continued to pressure the Bald Eagles' back line looking for a little of a cushion. McIntyre put another two shots on goal with just over 15 minutes to play before the break, but the LHU goalie, Megan Miller, made the two saves to keep the contest close.

The Bald Eagles took the final two shots of the half, but both attempts by Sydney Bolles and Abby Burdyn were off target, and the Huskies maintained their 2-0 advantage at the break.

Senior Campbell Power (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) looked to make it a 3-0 contest, but Miller stopped her shot in front of the net just over five minutes into the second half, and the Huskies' defense took over. Bloomsburg's back line allowed the Bald Eagles just three shots in the final 45, none of which reached the keeper, Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy).

Spingler made three saves in the contest for her fourth-straight shutout and fifth year.

Since allowing three goals to West Chester on September 3, the Huskies have played 362:07 minutes of scoreless soccer.

Bloomsburg returns to action next Saturday, September 24, as the Huskies welcome Shippensburg University to Steph Pettit Stadium for an 8:00 pm kick-off.
