Volleyball Falls to West Chester in Three Sets

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team fell to West Chester, 3-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action Saturday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 3-12 on the year and 1-2 in conference action, while the Golden Rams improved to 13-1 and 3-0 in the PSAC East.

The Golden Rams won the first two sets, 25-15, 25-13, before the Huskies' rally in the third set fell just short, and WCU closed the match with a 25-23 set three win.

Graduate student Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Huskies with nine kills and hit .333 for the match with just two errors on 21 attempts. She added a pair of block assists and four digs. Senior Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) finished the day with eight kills and five digs, while junior Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out 22 assists and had one service ace.

Freshman Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) led the team with eight digs, while Maura Uschock (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) had three digs and had the other service ace for the Huskies.

As a team, Bloomsburg hit .079 for the match behind 26 kills on 101 attempts and 18 errors. The Huskies posted double-digit kills in the third set and hit .095 with 12 kills and eight errors on 42 attempts.

The Golden Rams hit .280 with 44 kills and 14 errors on 107 attempts. WCU had double-digit kill totals in all three sets, reaching 15 in both the first and second games.

The Huskies kept the pressure on the Golden Rams in the third set, keeping the game within two for more of the action. Trailing 19-17, the Huskies got a point back thanks to a service error before Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills), and Buell stuffed the WCU hitter with a block to tie the set at 19-19. The Golden Rams then went on a four-point run to take a 23-19 lead before another two unforced errors by the Golden Rams cut the lead to 23-21. WCU earned its first match point thanks to a kill by Hailey Lewis before the Huskies rattled off two-straight kills by Buell to get to within one, 24-23. The Golden Rams held on and closed out the match with a kill from Tori Wright to take the game and match.

The Huskies return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Juniata for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest with the Eagles.
