Volleyball's Comeback Falls Short, Drops 3-1 Match to Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team rallied for a third-set win but fell to Juniata College, 3-1, in the final non-conference match of the season for the Huskies. Bloomsburg dropped to 3-13 while the Eagles improved to 11-1.
 
The Eagles took the first two sets, 25-12, 25-13, but Bloomsburg came back for a 25-22 win in the third. Juniata closed the match with a 25-11 win in the final set.
 
As a team, the Huskies hit .034 for the match with 21 kills and 17 errors on 116 attempts. The Eagles hit .295 for the match with 55 kills and 19 errors on 122 attempts.
 
Leading the way for Bloomsburg was freshman Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) with six kills, while graduate student Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) finished with five and senior Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) had four. Junior Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out 16 assists, and Buell and senior Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) each had one.
 
Freshman Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) finished the day with three aces, and Espinal had two. Junior Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) picked up four total blocks, with three from Warfel and two from junior Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria).
 
Freshman Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) led the team with 15 digs, while Antigua had eight and Espinal finished with seven.
 
In their 25-22 third-set win, Bloomsburg hit .111 as a team with six kills and just two errors on 36 attempts. The Huskies held Juniata to its lowest hitting percentage in the match as the Eagles finished with 15 kills and a match-high seven errors on 43 attempts for a .186 hitting percentage.
 
The Huskies return home on Friday as they take on the heart of their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East schedule. Bloomsburg opens the weekend against East Stroudsburg on Friday, September 30. The opening service is slated for 6:00 p.m.
